Acting technique approach

The question of method arises time and again in acting classes. The term method comes from the Greek μέθοδος (méthodos) and literally means: a way towards something – in other words, the way in which one proceeds to achieve a goal.

The work at «Respect4Acting»  is based on the central acting methods of international acting practice and combines classical fundamentals with modern, camera-oriented approaches. The focus is not on the theory of a method, but on its practical application in rehearsal, scene work, and performance.

  • Konstantin Stanislavski: At the core is an understanding of the situation, the action, and the inner logic of the character, with the aim of not merely portraying, but acting truthfully based on inner experience.
  • Lee Strasberg: Affective and sensory memory as well as personal experience are used to activate inner processes and translate them physically into the performance.
  • Stella Adler: Extension to include sociological aspects of the character: goals, background, and circumstances of the role, as well as precise script analysis as the basis for imaginative and text-based character work.
  • Sanford Meisner: Focus on genuine listening and reacting in the moment; repetition serves as a central training tool for impulse, instinct, and subtext.
  • Larry Moss: Precise text and scene analysis, from which emotional clarity and presence in the performance arise through circumstances, relationships, and action.
  • Ivana Chubbuck: Objective-oriented character work in which inner conflicts and obstacles are translated into concrete, playable actions.

These methods serve as tools from which you can develop your own way of working step by step—a method that works for you and proves itself in practice.

For me, more important than any method is lively, honest action — authentic and anchored in the moment.
Lee Strasberg - Stella Adler - Sanford Meisner
